You see it all started like this ...
I was just a volunteer like everyone else. Anxious to have "hands-on" field experience and hear lectures from world class archeologists. And, of course, I had my cameras. Originally, I was only taking photographs for my own personal use. So I took pictures of everything. I took pictures that had nothing to do with the excavation itself or even the general area of Ein Gedi. After downloading the images from my digital camera onto my laptop, many of them were shown in the reception area, and in time were seen by other volunteers. As the photos were viewed, more and more fellow volunteers began to be interested in many of the photographs. Someone suggested that the only managable way to make them available to everyone was to create a photo library on the web somewhere, hence this site.
Unfortunately, while I was taking the photos, I really had no intention to create a comprehensive web site for the dig experience. Else, I would have taken many more photos of the participants, and made an attempt to include every person. My apologies to those not pictured. I also would have taken a better photo spread of the site from the lift in order to cover the entire dig area more thoroughly. Despite the limitations described, and a few others that have affected the outcome, I hope these images will be a pleasant reminder of warm weather, bright blue skies and many new friends.
